Nursery Activity Ideas - Rangoli Designs

This is an activity that can be carried out by children of all ages, but can be extended for older children where they learn about the purposes of Rangoli designs.

You will need:

• Sand or Rice
• Water
• Food colouring in a variety of colours
• Card
• Glue

Activity:

Pour some sand or rice into a tray and pour over water coloured with your choice of food colouring. Leave for a few minutes for the colouring to be absorbed then pour off the excess water, spread out the sand and leave to dry.

Provide each child with a piece of card, allow children to draw their own patterns with the glue and sprinkle with the coloured rice or sand.

Alternatively for older children give them a photocopy of a simple Rangoli Design to decorate using their own choice of colours.
