Nursery Activity Ideas - Make Your Own Place Mat

This is a simple activity for older children to design their own place mats, that they can use at meal times.

You will need:

  • Coloured card
  • Digital Camera
  • Scissors
  • Various toy catalogues or children’s magazines
  • Glue
  • Laminator and laminating sheets

Activity:

First take a photo of the child using the digital camera and show them, if they like the photo print it off. Let the children choose a piece of coloured card, and glue their photo into the centre. Encourage the children to look through the magazines and catalogues and cut out any pictures that they like, for example their favourite toys, animals or their favourite cartoon characters. Children can glue these pictures onto the card, around their photo. Once their collage is finished, laminate it and use it for a place mat at meal times.

What a good idea, i was thinking about doing something like this at work, but wasn’t sure what to put on it. You could also laminate them so that you can wipe them with a damp cloth or antibacterial spray.
