Nursery Activity Idea: Number Sponge Painting
A messy and enjoyable activity for children of all ages, that will help older children to learn the numbers and their sequence.
You will need:
- Paints in a range of colours
- Painting trays
- Number shaped sponges
- Paper
Activity:
Pour the paint into the trays and place on the table along with the number sponges. Give each child a piece of paper, then dip the sponges into the paint and press onto the paper. As children from the age of two complete this activity, you can talk to them about the numbers they are printing. As children do this they will become more familiar with the number names and shapes. when children become more familiar with the number names, they can use the printing activity to sequence the numbers and learn new double figure numbers by combining two number sponges, for example.
