Nursery Activity Ideas - Outdoor Play In The Dark

This can be a fun activity for older children to allow them to explore and have fun in the dark, whilst developing communication and social skills.

This activity is best for the winter months, when it starts to get dark earlier in the evening. Dress the children in their coats and wellies and provide them with a torch each. If you do not have enough for one each ask the children to pair up and have a torch for each pair.

Explain to the children about safety issues and how to work the torches then take them out into the garden so that they are able to play and explore the garden in a different light. This activity can open up more oportunitites for further activities regarding night and day. It can also develop childrens’ problem solving and social skills.
