Nursery Activity Ideas - Make A Drain Pipe Xylophone
This activity will need time to create and set up before hand, and may need a professionals help, but once this is done it will last for a long time for all children to enjoy.
You will need:
- Drain pipe
- Saw
- Screws
- Thick lengths of wood
- Table tennis bats or thick drum sticks
Activity:
Cut the drain pipes into various lengths and line up on the ground in order of size like a xylophone. Now cut the lengths of wood down so you have two pieces approximately ten inches longer than the width of all the drain pipes.
Lay the wood onto the floor and leave five inches on the left side before screwing on the top of the first drain pipe. Screw the pipes in a line leaving a small gap between each pipe. If more support is needed screw the pipes to the second piece of wood starting at the bottom of the shortest pipe.
Screw the wooden frame to a fence or a wall. Give the children table tennis bats or thick wooden sticks to hit the drain pipes and create their music.
