Nursery Activity Ideas - Muddy Leaf Printing

A messy activity idea for children from the age of two, to enjoy in the garden during the autumn months.

You will need:

  • Buckets
  • Spade
  • Water
  • Earth
  • Paper or concrete floor
  • Leaves

Activity:

As a small group the children can make mud in the buckets by pouring water onto earth and stiring using their spades. Next the children can look around the garden to find leaves of varying shapes and sizes. Press one side of a leaf into the mud, then press onto a piece of paper or onto an outdoor concrete floor to make a leaf print. The children can also make their own patterns and pictures using the leaves, such as a tree made from several leaf prints.
