Nursery Activity Ideas - Making Outdoor Sensory Boxes

An activity more suitable for older children to explore a variety of outdoor sensory materials.

Place several storage boxes with clip on lids in the garden. In one box, place different equipment such as spades, buckets and trowels etc. In the others place materials such as, sand, large pebbles, smaller coloured chippings, wood chip, fine earth and lumpy earth etc. Children can enjoy exploring these materials with their hands and the equipment provided. The lids can be placed back on the boxes after play ready for next time.
