Nursery Activity Ideas - Creating My Pet Pictures

This is a very simple activity that can be completed by children of all ages, and displayed for all to see as part of a pets or animal theme.

You will need:

  • Plain paper
  • Pens, pencils, crayons or paints
  • or a choice of collage materials
  • A photo of the child’s pet

Activity:

Provide each child with a piece of plain paper and allow them to choose their own colouring or collage materials. You may want to limit the choices of materials for very young children. The children can then use these materials to draw and create their own pets. If a child does not have a pet ask them to draw their favourite animal instead. Once the child has finished their picture, write on the bottom the child’s name, what pet they have and their pet’s name. Display the child’s picture and their pet’s photo next to each other on the wall for everyone to see.

If you are completing this activity with older children you could link it in with group circle time, where each child can show the group their pictures and talk about their pet or favourite animal.
