Nursery Activity Ideas - Planting Spring Bulbs

This can be a fun activity for older children, to grow their own plants and watch them as they grow.

You will need:

  • Plant pots
  • Compost
  • Small spades
  • Bulbs
  • Watering cans

Activity:

If you do not have a garden within the setting you could use to plant bulbs, provide each child with a plant pot. The children can fill the pots with compost, dig a hole with their spade and plant the bulbs, cover in more compost and pat the compost down before watering the bulbs.

As the children carry out the activity they can discuss what they are doing, what a plant needs to grow and the names of the bulbs they are planting. The children can then water and look after their bulbs and watch their flowers grow.
