Nursery Activity Ideas - Create Your Own English Flag

A simple activity that all children can enjoy, although younger children will need help assembling the flag.

You will need:

  • English flag template
  • Red paint or collage material
  • White paint or collage material
  • Drinking straw or string
  • Selotape
  • Glue

Activity:

Print out or draw a template of the English flag for the children to decorate. The children can choose whether to paint or collage their flags, using the white material for the background and the red on the cross. Once the flags have dried, tape a drinking straw to the back of the flag for the children to hold.

Alternatively make a large bunting, by making a small hole in the top two corners of the flag and threading through a long length of string. Thread the string through the front of the hole on the left and out of the hole on the right, so the majority of the string is hidden at the back of the flag. Next, thread another flag onto the same string in the same way. Continue this until you have threaded all the flags then hang them from the ceiling, as part of your St. George’s Day display.
