A creative group activity linking to a theme based on “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” book, suitable for children over the age of two.
You will need:
- Large pieces of plain paper
- Collage materials
- Crayons and Pencils
- Large printed names of the days of the week (or stencil lettering)
Using the large pieces of paper cut out eight large circles and paint them in green. On the first circle draw a face and using the glue and collage materials form eyes and a mouth.
On separate pieces of paper draw each item the caterpillar had eaten in the week and ask the children to paint, colour or collage the pictures. Glue your lettering or printed days of the week to the top of each of the remaining circles. Then in the centre of each circle glue the picture of the food the caterpillar ate on that day. For example: Monday he ate one apple, Tuesday he ate two pears…
Assemble the caterpillar in order on the wall to create a bright and colourful display.
