A very chilly winter themed water play more suited to older children, which will require some pre planning.
You will need:
- Water
- Yogurt pots
- Ice cube tray
- Large water play tray
- Blue food colouring
- Plastic toy animals
Activity:
Start by making a range of icebergs at least a day before you intend to carry out this activity. Making icebergs can be a fun and educational activity in itself for older children. Pour water into a range of ice cube trays and different sized yogurt pots, filling them to different levels, and place them in a freezer. While doing this talk to the children about what they think will happen to the water in the freezer, what icebergs are and where they are found etc.
Fill a large water play tray with water and add a few small drops of blue food colouring and mix so that the water has a blue tinge. Now place your ice cubes and icebergs into the water and add some plastic Arctic animals, such as fish, whales and polar bears.
